Buyer’s guide
Veterinary clinic software in India, and which TailDesk is which
A veterinary clinic is not a human OPD with the word “patient” replaced by “pet”. The animal is the patient. The person paying, booking and carrying the certificate is someone else, and they often have two dogs and a cat on the same phone number. Weight changes the dose. Vaccines have batch numbers and due dates. Owners expect to see the queue move while they wait outside. If the software you are about to buy cannot say those things plainly, it is the wrong category, however polished the demo.
This guide is for small-animal clinics and veterinary hospitals in India choosing practice software. TailDesk is GreyNova’s product for that work. GreyNova is an AI-first software company. TailDesk is one product, next to Hospital Cloud for human hospitals and clinics. The name TailDesk is also used by products that do not run a vet hospital. That mix-up is common enough to deserve its own section below.
What to demand from veterinary clinic software
Judge the product against a Saturday morning, not against a feature matrix copied from human HMS software.
| Job in the clinic | What “good” looks like |
|---|---|
| The patient record | Species, breed and a weight on each visit, with history that stays attached to that animal. A second pet in the same family is a new record, not a new spelling of the owner. |
| The queue | Owners can book. The desk can check a pet in. Doctors, nurses and the people in the waiting area can see the same queue move. |
| Vaccines | Each dose stores the batch and the next due date. Reminders go out before the annual shot, not after the owner has already gone to another clinic. |
| Certificates | The vet issues a vaccination or health certificate the owner can open later, for boarding, travel or their own file. It should not be a photo of a stamp in a chat thread. |
| Lab and pharmacy | The vet requests a test, the lab uploads a result, the vet releases it onto the record. The store can sell a care package or a medicine against that visit. |
| Money | Invoices in the currency you actually bill, with a receipt the owner can find again. Each hospital should be able to set its own prices. |
| The owner’s phone | Booking, package purchase, a live view of the visit, and a folder of records and receipts. The owner should not see another hospital’s patients. |
Roles matter in even a small hospital. A doctor consults and signs certificates. A nurse records vitals and vaccines. Reception books and checks pets in. A lab technician uploads results for the doctor to release. Pharmacy runs stock. If everyone shares one login, you will not know who edited a certificate when an owner disputes it.
TailDesk by GreyNova
TailDesk is cloud software for veterinary hospitals and clinics. The product page is greynova.in/taildesk. In one web app it covers:
- Pet records, with visits, vitals, treatments and the owner’s details.
- Appointments and a live queue, including bookings the owner makes.
- Vaccinations and reminders, including dose, batch and the next due date.
- Digital certificates the owner can open later.
- Lab requests and results, pharmacy and store, and billing.
- A pet owner app for booking, packages, live visit tracking, records and receipts.
There is one plan, TailDesk Complete. The trial is 15 days, it includes every feature of that plan, and it does not ask for a card. It starts when you sign the business up at the TailDesk signup. You choose a billing country and currency at the start. Client invoices use that same currency, and the choice is fixed once the trial has started. The price itself is shown in that signup flow, in the currency you picked. This guide does not repeat a figure. If you need a custom arrangement, write to info@greynova.in.
You can look at the live app before you create a business, at the TailDesk welcome page. Teams and owners can use the product in English or Dutch. If an Indian clinic needs another language on screen, ask us before you rely on the trial to prove that. We would rather say so up front than have the desk discover it on a busy vaccine Saturday.
Several hospitals can sit on TailDesk. Each one has its own team, clients, pets and prices. A pet owner only sees the hospital they chose. That is the right model for a group practice. It is also the right model for a single clinic: you are not sharing a queue with a stranger.
Care packages are part of the product because vaccine schedules are how many clinics actually get paid and how they get pets back through the door. A hospital can sell a dog or cat annual plan, a puppy or kitten starter series, or its own packages, at its own prices. Each dose stays on that pet’s timeline. You still have to decide the medical protocol. The software’s job is to stop the third dose living on a sticker on the fridge.
Same name, different products
Search for “TailDesk” and you will not only find GreyNova. Buying the wrong one wastes the only weekend you were going to spend on setup. These are the collisions we see, described the way those projects describe themselves.
| Name you may see | What it actually is | Use it for a vet hospital? |
|---|---|---|
| TailDesk by GreyNova | Veterinary hospital and clinic software: clinical records, vaccines, lab, pharmacy, billing and a pet owner app. This is the product at greynova.in/taildesk. | Yes. This is the one this guide is about. |
| TailDesk, the WordPress plugin | A booking plugin for pet sitters and small pet-care businesses that work by the day: daycare, home boarding, dog walking. Visitors request a date range, and the sitter manages capacity in WordPress. See TailDesk on WordPress.org. It is not published by GreyNova. | No. It does not run consultations, lab, pharmacy or a medical record for a veterinary hospital. |
| Taildesk (taildesk.de) | German-language administration software aimed at small animal shelters and associations. The project’s own pages describe it as early, and as looking for pilot homes rather than as a live clinic system. It is not a GreyNova product. | No. A shelter roster and a veterinary OPD are different jobs, and this project is not our software. |
If a page asks you to install a WordPress plugin, or it is written for a German shelter that has not gone live yet, you are not in GreyNova’s TailDesk. Clinical signup for our product only happens on greynova.in, at /taildesk/signup. Human hospitals and clinics should not stretch TailDesk to fit people. Use Hospital Cloud and the small-clinic guide or the hospital guide.
A 15-day trial is shorter. Plan it.
Fifteen days is enough to know whether the desk and one vet will actually leave the paper vaccine cards behind. It is not enough to redesign every package you have ever sold. Do this, in order:
- Day 1. Create the business, pick the country and currency carefully, and invite the vet and the receptionist as different people. Currency is fixed after the trial starts, so do not rush that field.
- Days 2–3. Add ten real pets from the current vaccine file, with owners, species and the last due date you trust. If two pets share an owner, confirm both appear under that client and nowhere else.
- Days 4–6. Run one session on the live queue: a booking, a check-in, vitals, a note, and either a certificate or a vaccine dose with a batch number. Have the owner account open that certificate without calling the desk.
- Days 7–10. If you sell annual vaccine packages, configure one package you already offer and sell it once. Check that the doses land on the pet’s timeline and that the price is yours, not a sample.
- Days 11–13. If you have a lab or a store, push one test result and one dispensed item through. If you do not, skip them. Do not spend the trial building a pharmacy you do not run.
- Days 14–15. Decide. The trial includes the full TailDesk Complete feature set, and payment details are only needed if you continue. For a walkthrough with our team, use the demo request on the product page or email info@greynova.in.
Questions worth answering before day 15: Can a locum vet see only this hospital? Can you tell which nurse recorded a vaccine? Can an owner book the next due dose without a phone call? If the broadband drops at the desk, what can reception still do, and what must wait? Ask those of any veterinary product, including ours.
What not to confuse with a clinic system
A WhatsApp broadcast list is not a recall system if the due date lives in a notebook. A spreadsheet of owners is not a record if the weight from the last visit is missing when you calculate a dose. A human hospital product can be stretched to store a pet’s name in the “patient” field, and clinics do this when they are in a hurry. You will feel it the first time two animals share an owner, or when you need a certificate that says the vaccine batch rather than a diagnosis code meant for people. If that is the situation you are in, it is cheaper to trial TailDesk for 15 days than to keep bending Hospital Cloud out of shape. Hospital Cloud remains the right product when the patients are human. Both can sit in the same company. They should not sit in the same database.

FAQ
Questions vet clinics ask
What should veterinary clinic software do that a human hospital system does not?
It should treat the pet as the patient and the owner as the client, and keep several pets under one family. Each visit needs the species, breed and weight, because the next dose depends on them. Vaccination schedules, batch numbers, due dates and certificates are everyday work, not an add-on. The owner usually wants to book, see the queue and open a certificate from their phone.
What is TailDesk by GreyNova?
TailDesk is GreyNova's veterinary hospital and clinic product. It covers pet records, appointments and a live queue, vaccinations and reminders, digital certificates, lab tests, pharmacy and store, billing and a pet owner app. GreyNova is an AI-first software company; TailDesk is one product, alongside Hospital Cloud for human hospitals and clinics.
Are other products named TailDesk the same thing?
No. A WordPress plugin named TailDesk is a day-based booking tool for pet sitters, daycare and home boarding. A German project spelled Taildesk is administration software for small animal shelters and clubs, and its own site describes it as looking for pilot homes. Neither is GreyNova's clinical software for a veterinary hospital.
How long is the TailDesk trial, and what is included?
The trial is 15 days and includes every feature of the TailDesk Complete plan. It starts when you sign up the business, and it does not ask for a card. You pick a billing country and currency at the start; that choice is then fixed for the business. The price is shown when you sign up, in that currency. For a custom rollout, write to info@greynova.in.
Can one TailDesk account run more than one hospital?
Yes. Each hospital has its own team, clients, pets and prices. A pet owner only sees the hospital they chose. The interface is available in English and Dutch. If you need another language for an Indian clinic, ask before you commit, at info@greynova.in.
Open TailDesk before you rename the paper cards
The 15-day trial includes the full product and does not need a card. Look at the live app first if you want to see the owner’s side.
